MONOTHON Explained

What is the MONOTHON?

The CCP annual marathon of monotype printing, now in its 14th year, starts with printing sessions. Artists sign up work with master printers in art-intensive, five-hour sessions to create original monotypes. This year, Artist's Printing Sessions are scheduled for Sunday, October 21 through Saturday, October 27, two session times per day. A one session Youth Monothon takes place on Sunday, October 28.

What is a Monotype?

Monotype prints are made by drawing or painting with ink directly onto a printing plate. The plate is placed in contact with paper and run through a printing press, producing a one-of-a-kind print.

What Happens During a Printing Session?

Each MONOTHON artist is assisted by a Master Printer and a Press Assistant. All materials are provided; artists may create up to ten prints during
each session.

Silent Auction

How the Silent Auction Works

On November 17, 2012, the MONOTHON2012 Auction and Party begins with a Silent Auction, a showcase of all the prints selected by CCP staff from Artist's Printing Sessions, held in October. The artwork is on view in the gallery downstairs and in the studio space upstairs. An important component of the Silent Auction is the selection of original prints made by young artists during the Youth Monothon on view in the Lithography Studio and the Editions Studio

Each guest at the Auction and Party receives a bid number, upon arrival. To place a bid, the guest writes the bid price and bid number on the card provided beneath the work. Guests are encouraged to bid on the works they are interested in early in the evening. Bidding closes promptly at 8 pm, when the Live Auction proceedings begin! Purchased work is available to take home when the Auction and Party is over, at 9 pm.

Refreshments are served throughout the event, courtesy of our generous donors.
