Pronto Plate Lithography |
|
2-day workshop The polyester surface of a Pronto or Smart plate mimics the surface of a lithographic stone or plate. The non-image areas hold dampness and repel ink during printing. Participants will run the plate through a laser printer and the toner image repels water and becomes a printing base. The transparency of these plates allows one to work with multiple colors easily, and to register them with imagery printed from other sources. Images will be drawn directly onto either side of a polyester plate using drawing materials that are impervious to water. The best options for direct drawing are cheap Bic or Papermate ballpoint pens and Sharpie brand permanent markers. Other options include Stones crayons #5, toner washes, Speedball screen filler, and film opaquing pens. The plates portability and need for very little processing is a convenience and makes it an easy way to learn the lithographic process. Open to all levels |
