An intensive pursuit of the Printmaking Muse, this workshop will help you wend your way along the intertwined pathways of print processes. We will consider the diverging possibilities, the implications and consequences of one direction rather than another. We will ask what, and how, and why, as well as who you are as an artist. Particular attention will be paid to mixing and modifying water-based Akua inks for viscosity monotype rolling, we exploit basic additive and reductive monoprint techniques. Overprinting, off-set transfers, stamps, stencils, ghost images, chine colle, and the use of a variety of matrices (plastic, matboard, styrene, foamcore, wood) expand opportunities for “controlled accidents” and “calculated spontaneity”. Drypoint, carborundum and silk collagraphs, previously etched plates, and woodcuts are all presented as options for exploring the generative possibilities of printmaking. Emphasis is on identifying and enhancing the synergy between each participant’s own way of making art and the processes of printmaking. Demonstrations, one-on-one consultation, critiques, and print viewing encourage individual directions and the pursuit of projects in depth. This session is for more advanced artists who have a strong direction and want to produce finished prints, or to merely explore in depth a particular direction. Intermediate to Advanced
